F	i	Ruth Imogene WILKERSON was born on Apr 19 1889 in Briar, Wise County, TX.. She died on Mar 18 1981 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, TX. and was buried in Greenwood Cem., Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., TX. Ruth Imogene Wilkerson was born on Good Friday, April 19, 1889, near Briar in Wise County, TX., the fourth daughter and fifth child of James West and Imogene Puryear Wilkerson. Two younger brothers followed and another sister died at birth. She later moved with her parents to the Knob community in Parker County where her father was a farmer and operated a general merchandise store. After completing her elementary and secondary education in the schools of Parker County, she attended North Texas State Normal at Denton where she earned an elementary teachers' certificate. She taught one year at Mertzon, TX., before her marriage to John Millard Parish of Springtown, Parker County, TX. From 1912 to 1925 Ruth gave birth to four sons and five daughters. She and Millard lived on farms in Springtown and Mission, TX., and "in town" in Fort Worth, San Antonio and Dallas. When Millard left home in the early 1930s, Ruth returned to the work force and found employment in the public schools cafeterias of Fort Worth. With the exception of a period during WWII when she worked at the Army Quartermaster Depot in Fort Worth, she was employed by the Fort Worth schools system until her retirement. Probably the best years of her life were in her retirement. She enjoyed good health, her children and grandchildren, her Sunday school class and Polytechnic Methodist Church, and her many friends and relatives. She kept a journal in her later years that provided some great information about her life. She was honored by her church as "Mother of the Year" in 1964, and her children and grandchildren honored her on her 80th birthday with a reception at the church.
