Women and the Pits

THE EMPLOYMENT OF WOMEN AT THE PIT MOUTHS - BREAKFAST TIME
The GRAPHIC, c. 1880

This website is the result of a vision shared by myself and Ian Winstanley.  Our goal is to provide an informative and factual site of the history of the women working in the mines of the United Kingdom.  All information on this site is from historical records and text collected by Ian; I've simply tried to put it all together with his help and lots of reading!  Of course, this is not a finished product, much work remains to be done.  The history of women in the mines is fascinating and I hope that all who visit will find something of interest.
