Contact.    Transcribed by Val HENDERSON Checked by Robert ROWLAND   Pages 807 - 808   BRIXTON is a village and parish in Plympton St. Mary union, containing, by the census of 1861, 691 inhabitants, and 2999 acres; in the deanery and hundred of Plympton, archdeaconry of Totnes, diocese of Exeter, South Devonshire; 3 miles south from Plympton St. Mary Railway Station, and 4 south-east from Plymouth. The vicarage, in the incumbency of the Rev. Theophilus Jones, M.A., is valued at £110 per annum, and is in the patronage of the Dean and Canons of Windsor. In the churchyard are the remains of an ancient parsonage house, long since in ruins. The rectorial tithes were commuted, in 1839, for £641 per annum; Henry Collins-Splatt, Esq., is the impropriator. The church is in the Decorated style, and has a tower with five bells; it was erected about 1477. There is a National School for children of both sexes. The manor was formerly called Britricheston, and was held by a family of that name, but was dismembered long since. B.J.P. Bastard, Esq., and the representatives of the late Sir T.
