Contact.    Transcribed by Val HENDERSON Checked by Sybil CAMERON   Page 801   ALLINGTON (EAST) is a parish and village in Kingsbridge union, containing, by the census of 1861, 521 inhabitants, and 3646 acres; in the deanery of Woodleigh, archdeaconry of Totnes, diocese of Exeter, hundred of Coleridge, East Devonshire; 4 miles north-east from Kingsbridge. The rectory, in the incumbency of the Rev. Henry Raymunds Fortescue, B.A., had the tithes commuted, in 1839, at £485 per annum, with residence and 113A. 1R. 37P. of glebe land, and is in the patronage of W. B. Fortescue, Esq. The church is an ancient edifice, dedicated to Saint Andrew, in the Perpendicular style, with an embattled tower containing five bells. The poor have 20s. per annum bequeathed by John Peter, in 1570. FALLAPIT HOUSE is a fine mansion in the Elizabethan style, the seat of William Cubitt, Esq., who is lord of the manor and chief owner of the soil. This gentleman also keeps a pack of foxhounds here.
