Contact.   Transcribed by Jack STEER Checked by Val HENDERSON Page 859   REVELSTOKE is a village and parish in Plympton St Mary union, containing, by the census of 1861, 505 inhabitants, and 1478 acres; in the deanery and hundred of Plympton, archdeaconry of Totnes, diocese of Exeter, South Devonshire; 10 miles south-east from Plymouth on the sea coast overlooking Babbicombe Bay. The rectory, in the incumbency of the Rev. John Otho WEST, B.D., is valued at £246 per annum, with residence and nine acres of glebe land, and is in the patronage of the Bishop of Exeter. The original church, dedicated to St. Peter, is now in ruins, but a new chapel-of-ease has been erected, capable of seating 300 persons, two-thirds of which are to be free: it has turret with bell and clock. The Wesleyans are erecting a chapel here, which will shortly be opened for divine service. There is a National School for children of both sexes. NOSS MAYO is a hamlet of this parish, near the mouth of the River Yealm, opposite Newton Ferrers, which contains the greater part of the population. It is a small fishing station, and great quantities of lobsters, crabs, and herrings are caught in this neighbourhood. There is a chapel-of-ease, which was erected in 1839. Clergy. WEST Rev.
