FIRST GENERATION

1. James Searcy WALDREP was born about 1780 in South Carolina.1 He resided in 1832 in Lawrence County, Alabama. James patented the W 1/2 of the SE 1/4, T6S, R3W, S14 containing 79.73 acres on 3 Sep 1832. He patented the N 1/2 of the SW1/2, same section, same acreage, on 9 Feb 1833. He used his full name on the second certificate. He died about 1859 in Lawrence County, Alabama.2 He has reference number 00124. Many researchers that James was the son of Luke Waldrep and Mary Henderson of Rutherford County, NC. I have Luke's will. He named only one son, Asa. There is pretty good circumstantial evidence that Luke had other sons. There is no proof of any sort that James Searcy was one of them. I searched Rutherford County records and could find nothing to indicate that Luke and James even knew each other. I think a much stronger case can be made for John Waldrep and Elizabeth Nelson of Laurens County, SC as his parents. We can actually make some links there. James S. and Edmund witnessed James and Elizabeth's last two deeds in Laurens County (before they moved to Kentucky). James descendants used the given name of Nelson.

He was married to Jemima JEFFREYS about 1805 in Laurens County, South Carolina.3 Jemima JEFFREYS was born about 1785 in South Carolina.3 "A Jeffreys Family" by Allen Ray Jeffreys says she was the daughter of John Jackson Jeffreys. I am not convinced of that. Records indicate that Jemima was six years old when John married his first wife, Jincey Edwin. Of course there may have been another wife that we don't know about yet. She was certainly related to the Jeffreys family somehow. She died before 1870 in Lawrence County, Alabama.2,4 She has reference number 00125. James Searcy WALDREP and Jemima JEFFREYS had the following children:

+2 i. Henny P. WALDREP.

****+3 ii. Brooks Monroe WALDREP.

+4 iii. Nelson J. "Nell" WALDREP.

+5 iv. Evan J. WALDREP.

SECOND GENERATION

2. Henny P. WALDREP was born about 1809. There is absolutely no proof that this girl is the child of James and Jemima. However there was no other family by their surname in the area at the time of her marriage to Stockton.

She was married to Samuel Stockton on 14 Jun 1827 in Morgan County, Alabama.

**3. Brooks Monroe WALDREP was born about 1810 in Tennessee or South Carolina.3 The 1850 census listed a birthplace of South Carolina. 1860 and subsequent showed Tennessee. He was an owned and ran a saloon in Wolf Springs about 1860 in Lawrence County, Alabama.5 The bar was used as a school in the daytime. He served in the military between 1862 and 1865 in Private in Co. F., 56th Alabama Rangers, CSA - Civil War..6 He died in 1883 in Lawrence County, Alabama.7 He was buried in 1883 in Mount Zion Cemetery.8 He is in one of the above-ground crypts. The lettering is worn away. He has reference number 00062.

His granddaughter, Mattie Brooks Beavers, told me many fond tales of him. He was apparently a great guy in the eyes of his family.

He was married to Winnafred C. WRIGHT (daughter of James Love WRIGHT and Winnifred C THORN) on 8 Jul 1828 in Morgan County, Alabama.9 Winnafred C. WRIGHT was born about 1812 in Chester County, South Carolina.3 She died between 1850 and 1860 in Lawrence County, Alabama.1,2 She has reference number 00063. 29 Jan 1825
