He married, January 1861 Frances Amelia Kenney, born Jul 1842. They had a 230 acre farm at Wicklow, and no longer raised flax, but they spun wool for cloth an knitting. Maple sugar was made from their own trees. Joseph logged each winter on Government land, by paying a small "stumpage" fee. He owned a tow boat, and during the summers made freighting trips down the river to Fredericton, until the railroad came, about 1874. It took three weeks to make the round trip, though only two days to go down. A span of horses had quarters on the boat, and walked on the edge of the water on the way back. Frances Amelia had the first treadle sewing machine, and the neighbors came for miles to sew on it. When she married, her parents gave her a cow, a heifer, and six sheep, besides bedding, etc. Their daughter, Ada Harriet Giberson, married William Henry Dolman. Ada Giberson Dolman, of Santa Ana, California, wrote the following list of land owners on the St. John River, New Brunswick on July 17, 1940.This list covers the land owners when I was a child, from Matthew Hutchinson, Upper Wicklow to Bob Hume, north of Florenceville. Afterwards it was bought by his brother Andrew. Charlie Giberson (Frances' father) bought the Seth and George Milbery farms. Nathan Milbery owned an apple orchard by the river. The store keepers at Florenceville were Dennis McGaffigan, Charles Carney, Bob Hume and John Sannders. Bristol was called Schickettehawk until the railroad was put through, about 1871 or 1872. The store keepers were Ned Phillips, Charlie Phillips, and David Merritt. Bath was called Monquart. The store keepers were Thomas Bohan, Annie Cummings and Ratchford Philips. Worked in the copper mines of Butte, Montana, during the war of the copper Kings.
