Written by Linda Harris: "As we discussed on the phone here are some of the diary entries written by my gr grandmother, Alma Wallace Darkis, b. 1879 daughter of Elizabeth Giberson. Elizabeth Giberson was second cousin to Hannah [Elizabeth] Giberson b. 1865. My gr grandmother wrote that she lived with Hannah Perley for 2 years before she married Richard Wallace."

July 16, 1929 Bristol " Went down to Hannah Perley's in the P.M. Gene Dyer took us down. Frank was over from Bridgewater Me. After supper Mae Han & I went to Georges. It was so nice to see them all as I had lived with Hannah for 2 years before I was married, we went to bed at 9:45."

July 17, 1929 Bristol " At 9 A.M. Mae Hannah Annie & I started to see Rose at Good Corner. Annie driving Henry's car. We stopped to Centerville on our way back did some shopping arrived home at 11 A.M. Hustled up the dinner, after dinner Han, Mae, Annie all lay down & had a rest 4 P.M. Mae Annie & I went out to the garden picked a pail of strawberries. After supper Annie drove us up home Arrived 8:20 P.M.

Sat July 20, 1929 Hannah Perley came up about 10 A.M. After lunch Jean took Han, Mae Robert & I for a drive. We went to Bath I stopped at Martha Broads Dells Emerys & Aunt Caroline's. Then went on to Florenceville. I took a snap of the old home went to Daddy Adams, got some vegetables, came home had a lot of company in the eve. Henry & Annie came for Hannah at 9 P.M.

Wed. July 30 1929 " In the A. M. Mrs. Guiggie came over & we put a quilt on the frames. Aunt Caroline & Sarah & Grace Staten came down. Then Hannah Perley came up and we quilted on two quilts. Aunt Car & Sarah stayed to supper & Grace went home Hannah Perley stayed all night. In the eve she hemmed the puff around for me. We went to bed at 9:30 P. M.

Thurs. July 31, 1929 " I got up at 7:45 Hannah & I quilted until noon. After lunch Jean took Mae, Denzel & I out to Foreston fishing. We went to Jemine Brooks (nee Staten)had lunch of chicken then went fishing. We waded up stream. Mae & I caught 14 trout came back had a wonderful supper of chicken soup etc. Arrived home 8:30 Hannah had gone home & took the red & white quilt home to finish. Went to bed very tired at 9:45 P.M.

Aug. 2, 1929 In P.M. dot, Reta, Mae, Lydia & I went down to Hannah Perley's Took some pictures had a lunch of cake and cream & came home & spent the eve at home.

I hope you have enjoyed this snapshot of summer days in your Grandmother's time. Hannah would have been 64 at the time and Alma would have been 50. They certainly had the stamina for visiting.
