Edgar M. Abney

Edgar M. Abney, 78, of 141 N. C. St., Hamilton, Ohio, and a former resident of Clark County, died at 8:10 am Saturday at the Fort Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton, Ohio, after a short illness.

He was a native of Estill County, a son of the late Edgar Pearl and Sally Long Abney, a retired Hamilton Board of Education Employee and a member of the Church of Chirst in Mason, Ohio.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Eva Estes Abney; three sons, Robert A. Abney, Winchester; Shirley O. Abney, Hamilton Ohio, and Hobert M. Abney, Simi Valley, California; three daughters, Mrs. Earl W. (Orene) Stone, Winchester; Mrs. Dorothy Slafter and Miss Jean Abney, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; two half-brohters, Clayton A. Abney of Georgia and Howard Abney of Ohio; a half sister, Mrs. Blev Metcalf, Clay County, 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am Tuesday at the Scobee Funeral Home by the Rev. B. L. Richardson and the Rev. James Cooper. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Stone, Henry Casteel, Randall Estes, John Estes, Henry c. Neal and Darrell Metcalf.

Friends may call at the funeral home 4-8 pm today.

"The Winchester Sun" January 24, 1955: Funeral services for E. P. Abney, 79, retired L & N Railroad watchman, were conducted at 2 p.m. today at Scobee Funeral Home by the Rev. B. L. Cox, pastor of Fairfax Church of Christ. Burial was in the Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert A. Abney, Shirley Abney, Hobert M. Abney, Randall Estes, Leon Chamberlain and Wayne Stone. Mr. Abney, a native of Estill County, died at 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the Clark County Hospital, following a long illness. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Sanford and Martha Tipton Abney. Survivors include five sons, Hobert Abney, Phoenix, Ariz.; Edgar Abney, Hamilton, Ohio; Austin and Howard Abney, Cincinnati, and Aster Abney, Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Estes, Winchester, and Mrs. Geneva Metcalf, Clay County; two brothers, Joe Abney, Powell County, and Green Abney, Peebles, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. L. P. Hamilton, Richmond, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edith Abney Finney

Edith Abney Finney, 84, Winchester Health Care Center, widow of Pearl Abney and Paris Finney, died at 4:30AM today at the Clark Regional Medical Center.

A native of Wolfe County, she was the daughter of the late C. C. and Cynthia Ann Woodard Drake. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ruckerville Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. William (Evadna) Wilcox, Clark County; a stepson, Ray Finney, Lockport; six grandchildren, Larry Abney, Titusville, Fla.; Linda Saylor, Lexington; Danny Abney, Billy Ray Wilcox and Ronnie and Terry Wilcox, Winchester; 11 great-grandchildren, three-half brothers, Woodford Drake, Winchester; Clayton Drake, Wilmore, and Roscoe Drake, Lexington.

Services will be ocnducted at 10Am Thursday at the Scobee Funeral Home by the William Keller. Burial will be in the WInchester Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Shepard, Ivan Psimer, Ellis Abner, Roy Drake, Wayne Shepard and Charles Saylor; honorary, Dr. Thomas Burchett, Dr. William Davis, Billy Ray Wilcox, Ronnie and Terry Wilcox, Jeff Saylor, Chuck Saylor, Danny Abney II and Clyde Abney.

Visitation will be 5-9PM Wednesday.

Elizabeth Abney


Elizabeth Abney, 86, of Dade City, died Saturday, August 16, 2003 at Hernando- Pasco Hospice Care Center. She moved here in 1938 from her native New York. She was a homemaker and a member of Fort Dade Bapti st Church. Survivors include four children,Oliver B. Abney, Jr., Bobby E. Abney and Mabel Woodbury, all of Dade City and Richard "Bo" Abney of Brooksville; four brothers, Howard Simmons of Connecticut, Gene and Richard Simmons of New York and Eddie Simmons of Dade City; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grand- children; and three great- great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Fort Dade Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 with Pastor Stephen Walding officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home form 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday (Today) , August 18, 2003.

Ellen Oliver Abney Part 2

Ellen Oliver Abner, 87, of 304 Bowling Road, Waynesboro, mother of Grace Wood, Winchester, died at 5:30pm Saturday at the Clark Regional Medical Center. A native of Leslie County, she was the daughter of the late J. C. and Maranda Lovings Oliver. She was a member of the Parlor Grove Baptist Church in Lincoln County. Additional survivors include her husband, Britton Abner, two other daughters, Audrey Bowling, Oxford Ohio, and Lillian Harron, College Corner, Ohio, two sons, Ambrose Bowling, Dalton, Ga., and Harold Bowling, Carlise, Ohio; three grand daughters, Debbie Bowman, Krista Bowling, and Patricia Swanger; five grandsons, Stanley and Parrett Bowling and Ryan, Larry and Leslie wood, and five great grand children. Services will be conducted at 2pm Tuesday at the Parlor Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Mr. Hill. Burial will be in the Parlor Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11am Tuesday at the church. Edgington Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ellison Abney. Sr.
Ellison Abney, Sr., of Potosi, passed away November 1, 1993, in Georgian Gardens Nursing Home, Potosi, at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 13 days. He was born December 19, 1909, in Glasgow, Kentucky to the late Walter and Bertha (Huff) Abney. He was united in marriage to Iva Louise Frazier November 17, 1930, at Goodwater, Missouri, and four children were born to this union. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one grandson, Robert Payne, Jr.

Those who remain to mourn his passing are his loving and devoted wife, Iva Abney of Potosi; two sons, Robert Abney of Potosi and Ellison Abney, Jr. and his wife Tommy Jo of Festus; two daughters, Deloris Welker and husband, Gary of Arnold and Bertha Faries and husband Don of Arnold; one brother, Smith Abney and wife Hallie of Steelville; 11 grandchildren, 13 great grand children, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were conducted 10:30A.M. Wednesday, November 3, at Britton Chapel, Potosi, with Rev. Herbert Wiley officiating. Interment was in Lower Indian Creek Cemetery at Viburnum, under the direction of the Britton Bros Funeral Home of Potosi. Serving as pallbearers were: James House, Mark Abney, Brad Turner, Mike Barr, Jay Barr, and Pete McCue.

Elmarie Morris Abney

Elmarie Abney of 219 Houser, Flat River, was born January 20, 1917 in Elvins the daughter of the late Sam and Ida Womack Morris.

Surviving are her husband, W. B. Abney and the following children, Ladon Becker of Belleville, ILL., Dennis Becker of St Louis County, Leanna Abney at home, and Jeffrey Abney at home; and two sisters; Mrs. Lillian Cupp of Memphis Tenn., and Octavia Cremer of Brea, California. She was preceded in death by one brother, Earl J. Morris of Esther.

Chapel services will be conducted Thursday, May 16, at 2:30PM with the Rev Robert Fowler officiating. Interment will be in Three Rivers Cemetery under the direction of the C. Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Service of Desloge.

Infant Emily Dawn Abney was stillborn Sept. 30 at the Mineral Area Regional Medical Center.

She is survived by her parents, Patrick Bryan Abney and Alice Lorraine Barlow Abney of Flat River; grandparents; Maynard Abney of Fredericktown; Milton and Maudie Barlow of Flat River; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Weir of Bonne Terre, Adell Mitchell of Frankclay; one brtoher, Patrick Abney, Jr. of the home; one sister, Sara Abney of the home; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be held 11:30Am Wednesday at the Caldwell Funeral Home chapel. Graveside services will follow at 1PM at the Mitchell Cemetery with Rev. Elbert Mason officiating.

Elza Abney, 80, of 8113 Winchester Road, Clay City, widower of Willie Mae Stone Abney, died at 5:02 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. A native of Clark County, he was the son of the late Jasper and Linnie Willoughby Abney. He was a retired farmer and antique dealer. Survivors include a daughter, Katherine Williams, Cincinnati; a grandson, Steven Williams, Cincinnati; a granddaughter and son-in-law, Sandi and Lloyd Ross, Cleveland Heights, Ohio; a brother and sister-in-law, Lewis and Katherine Abner, Winchester; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorean and Denzil Rader and Juanita and Ray Adams, Winchester, and Gladys Griffett, Clay City, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Scobee Funeral Home by Rev. Jimmy Muncie. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery. ELZIE C. ABNEY, 78, Speedway, died Dec. 25. He worked at International Harvester Co. for 27 years, retiring in 1981 as an inspector. He was a member of the Speedway Church of Christ.

Emma Long

Emma Frances Abney Long, 86, Cantrill Street, Irvine, wife of 68 years to Herman Earl Long, died Friday after a long illness. She was born Sept. 27, 1919 in Estill County, a daughter of the late Curtis and Lula Dunaway Abney and had lived in Estill County all of her life. She was a homemaker. Survivors in addition to her husband, Herman, include three daughters, Lois (Harold) Wiseman and Janice Estes, both of Irvine, and Margaret (Phillip) Wiseman of LaGrange; three sons, Billy (Thelma) Long of Cincinnati, Ohio, Roger Long of Irvine, and Larry Long of Epherta, Pa.; a sister, Helen Houghton of Vevay, Ind.; four brothers, Curtis Abney of Louisville, Charlie Abney of Nicholasville, James Abney of Irvine and Taylor (Florence) Abney of Camargo; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Lewis Funeral Home by Bro. Delvin Reese with burial at Oakdale Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Christopher Walters, Brandon Long, Darvin Johnson, Drew Wiseman, Mike Lay and Malcolm Wells.



Ernest Abney

Ernest Abney, formerly of Belgrade, died July 27 at Arcadia Valley Hospital at the age of 85.

He is survived by one son, Carl Abney of Florissant, three brothers; Claude Abney and Clarence Abney, both of Belgrade and Grafer Abney of Bismark, one sister, Lola Woods of Warren, Mich., three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at 3 PM Tuesday at the Britton Brothers (Sparks) Funeral Home in Potosi. Funeral services will be held 2PM Wednesday at the Britton Brothers Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Thomas officiating, Burial will be in the Liberty Baptist Cemetery at Belgrade.

She is preceded in death by her sisters: Georgia Abner and Minnie Smith, and her brother: Bill Abner. Funeral Services for Eva Belle Abner will be Friday, December 2nd, 2005 at 11 AM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dennis Steely and Pastor Doug Abner will be officiating. Ewart G. Abner Jr.

Ewart G. Abner Jr., a music industry veteran who helped direct the careers of such performers as Stevie Wonder and the Jackson 5 on his way to becoming president of Motown Records, died of complications from pneumonia at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. He was 74. Abner, known to his friends as "Ab," began his music industry career in Chicago in 1948 working on the production line of a record company for 85 cents an hour. In 1950 he joined Art Sheridan to start Chance Records, then moved to Vee Jay Records, the first Black-owned, full-line record label.

Funeral services for Everett C. (Crip) Abney, 62, were conducted at 3PM today at the Karl K. Lusk and Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Earl Pennington officiating. Burial was in the Paris Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Thomas McAnally, Ray Estes, Kenneth Edgington, Steve Edgington, Larry Abney and Clarence Abney.

Abney, of 8 Bankrow, died at 10:20PM Sunday in the Bourboun County Hospital. He was a retired farmer, a native of Estill County and a son of Levi and Rosemary Abney.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nellie Rison Abney, of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Estes and Mrs. Arthur Walker, both of Louisville; Mrs. Frank Edgington, Paris, and Mrs. Henry Mitchell, Lexington; three sons, Leroy Abney, New Albany, Ind.; Paul Abney, Louisville, and Michael Abney, Paris; a sister, Mrs. James Crouch, Lexington; three brothers, Allen Abney, Bourbon County; Robert Abney, Logansport, Ind., and Thomas Abney, Lexington, and 17 grandchildren.
