	Stephen White
	Stephen White is the genealogist at the Centre d'études acadiennes at Moncton University, New Brunswick, Canada. He has been there for over 20 years. Much of that time has been spent working on a comprehensive genealogical work [*Dictionnaire généalogique des familles acadiennes*] on the Acadians.
Rumors of its completion have been around for most of this decade, but Mr. White keeps finding things to add to the work. The *Dictionnaire* will be produced in two parts. The first part (which was supposed to go to press by the end of 1998) will cover the period from their settlement to about 1714. The second part will cover the period from about 1714 to after the deportation (families formed by about 1780). The data is also supposed to be available online (for a fee) at some time in the future. Mr. White, born in Massachusetts, is also of Acadian descent. He began his research in Acadian genealogy in 1966. He studied at Harvard University in Boston and is a world-renowned pre-deportation genealogist. He has authored a number of genealogical articles and is also a member of several genealogical and historical societies in Canada and New England. Among his many accomplishments, he was also a founding member, examiner and secretary-registar of the Genealogical Institute of the Maritimes, a board for the accreditation of genealogists. Mr. White wrote 37 short genealogical articles on Acadian families for La Société historique acadienne's publication, *Les Cahiers* [Vol 25, nos 2 et 3, avril-septembre 1994]. They can be found online at the CEA site. Some talk about the progenitors of a family, while others pick out a certain person of that surname.
