Arlo L. Beard Obituary

ARLO L. BEARD, 94, a resident of Heritage Pointe, Warren, IN, died at 4:25 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2008. He was born March 28, 1914 in Whitley County, Indiana a son of Amon E. and Alice (Goodrich) Beard. He spent his formative years in Larwill where he attended elementary school and graduated from Larwill High School in 1932. On December 25, 1938 he was united in marriage to Frances L. Dickerson. Mrs. Beard died January 4, 2000. He began his employment with the former Blue Bell factory, Columbia City and later Dana/Weatherhead, Columbia City where he retire in 1979 with 39 years of service. He then took-up his hobbies of cabinet making and woodcarving. . He was a member of Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, Goblesville, IN, Bippus Lions Club and the Splendid Splinters Woodcarving Club.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Amy Vehling and Ann (Barry) Watkins both of Washington, IN; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Furlo, Dalton, Kenneth and Alva Beard; two sisters, Berneda Crowell and Mary Hamlett.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. Dave Marty, pastor of Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, officiating. The burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Huntington County. The visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
