Alice Margaret (Powell) Baker Obituary

Alice Margaret Powell Baker, of the 6400 block of Dove St., departed this earth to join her husband, Ralph, in the spiritual home of our Lord on Nov. 27, 1996.

A native of Norfolk, Mrs. Baker was a loving and caring wife and mother who was blessed with patience. She was a graduate of Maury High School and the Mercy Nursing Hospital in Baltimore, Md. She proudly served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She later worked as a registered nurse at local hospitals. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Norfolk.

Survivors include three daughters, Martha Baker Spencer and her husband Daniel of Grass Valley, Calif., Margy Baker of Norfolk, Clara Ellen Baker of Norfolk; three sons, Ralph James Baker and Janis Elliot of Los Angeles, Calif., Robert Walton Baker of Virginia Beach, Bernard Michael Baker of South Pasadena, Calif.; six grandchildren, Marjorie Alice Spencer, Daniel Lee Spencer, Peter Andrew Spencer, Jamie Baker, Aaron Baker, Margo Lynn Baker; a sister-in-law, James and Winsome Puryear of South Boston, Va.; and cousins, Nan Gale and Mary Virginia.

A church service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Christ the King Catholic Church by Fr. Joseph Lehman. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. There will be a christian wake service held Friday at 7 p.m. in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Norfolk Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the Union Mission or the Salvation Army.
