Smethwick Parish Registers

SMETHWICK PARISH REGISTERS

gravestone The purpose of this site is to help in a small way those people who are researching their family history in Smethwick but are unable to now visit the place their ancestors came from.

These are complete transcriptions of the registers, not selected entries and are taken from the beginning of the registers up to the 31st December 1851. After this date other means of research, such as the Censuses and the GRO indexes are readily available.

Entries have been transcribed from microfiche film which is not always easy to read due to the poor quality of the film, the deterioration of the register or poor handwriting. Inevitably mistakes will have been made and accuracy is not guaranteed. You are urged, wherever possible, to check the information against the original source. Due to the limitations of web pages we have used some abbreviations, and in rare instances we have had to omit some details.

The Read Me page contains some notes on dates, a list of the abbreviations used and how to sort the data into different sequences.

These transcriptions are placed here for PERSONAL research only, and no payment is required.

Under no circumstances are they to be used by Professional Researchers or others where a fee is involved. In these circumstances Sandwell Archives, Smethwick Library, High Street, Smethwick, B66 1AA must be contacted for their permission.
