A and B indicate sections of the old route (red) of the Thorpe-Blythe Bridge turnpike that left the Ashbourne-Buxton turnpike near a toll cottage at C. D indicates the route (green) that was probably created shortly after the Thorpe-Blythe Bridge turnpike was created in 1762. The photograph was taken in 1945 by the RAF.
