A Message From Your President
'The Last Epistle'

With this final letter I'm bowing out as your president. Come Thursday afternoon of the conference we will be welcoming a new leader. Look for many new things to be happening in the years ahead under this new leadership.

We will be presenting to you, Thursday afternoon, July 14, at the General Meeting, a fine slate of officer and Board nominees for your consideration.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank those with whom I've worked for the past four years, who made the task easier and also more enjoyable. First and foremost are certainly J. Gerald and Juanita Eller, editors of the Chronicles, who have managed an incomparable achievement in producing a very creditable newsletter as well as deftly holding the association together; Charlotte Marshall who has been so helpful over the years in so many ways - couldn't have done it without her; Nancy Eller, our Secy/Treas who has been such a self-starter, initiating some new procedures that proved very helpful to the EFA and to me; and of course the members of the Board who were always there at responding in a timely manner to the requests for approval of a number of matters: R. Vance Eller, Byron Eller, Walton Eller, Bethel Stolte, Lowell Eller and Kathy Schoen; and for their support along the way, Lynn Eller, Bethel Stolte and Vernard and Phyllis Eller.

I must leave the conference early, spending only Wednesday and Thursday there. If time permits, I may discuss several facets of Vol II, etc. There is such a growing quantity of new genealogy in the EFA files that there is a corresponding need for additional people beyond the 10 already standing by. Future issues of the Chronicles will certainly contain requests for more people to correspond, compile, type and hopefully those who can computer generate genealogy.

Elsewhere in this issue is a copy of the audit of the EFA financial records for the calendar year 1992. This was prepared by our member Roger F. Eller. I wish to thank him for the Eller Family Association and for myself for this his second year of auditing our 'records. Unfortunately Roger and Julia will not be able to make the conference.

I trust I will see many of you at the conference.

Sincerely,
A Wm Eller

A Recap of Significant Events in the
Business of the Eller Family Association

The preponderance of activity and effort for the last two years since Conf '91 has been the monumental task by J. Gerald and Juanita Eller of producing the Chronicles for us every three months. No sooner do they send an issue off to the printers than they must start anew preparing material for the next issue. It is, I honestly believe, a true labor of love. The content truly bespeaks of their desire to give us with each issue an unusual variety and an amazing quantity of interesting and well-presented history of us Ellers and associated families, most of which will find its way into new volumes(!) of Eller genealogy.

Regarding the finances of the EFA, Nancy Eller, our Secy/Treas, prepares a monthly computer printout of our status, sending me a copy each month. The 1992 unaudited Treasurer's Report was printed in the February 1993 issue of the Chronicles, while the audited version appears in this (August) issue. Please refer to my President's letter for the recognition given to Roger F. Eller for his efforts. A copy of the May 1993 financial report by Nancy is also included in this issue for your information.

Our membership continues to hover around the 200 mark with a pattern of gains of new members during the year with an unfortunate trend to lose some at years end for various reasons. According to Nancy, who also monitors the membership, she noted that it stood at 172 when she took over the position in 1991. Presently it stands at 206, a net gain of 34- We gained 82 new members during that period but we also lost 48.- Overall we anticipate a steady net gain in the years ahead. Over the past year you have had the opportunity to read in the Chronicles of the strides being made in one of the goals of the EFA, that of restoration work planned for Eller cemeteries. The fund raising that is anticipated as various projects unfold at Conf '93 will help fund that effort as well as the outright gifts that have accrued. See line items 200-304 in the May 1993 financial report. One new need has surfaced on a recent trip to the Harvard, Nebraska cemetery by Byron Eller and Bethel Stolte, with tour guides Gerald and Donald Eller, Harvey Eller descendents. The grave marker of my great-grandfather William, Harvey's brothers has begun to settle noticeably.

Regarding Conf '39 hosted by Charlotte Marshall and Lynn Eller, several short term committees have been formed to assist in the business of the conference namely:

These will be introduced Thursday morning at the conf opening.

Finally, as you will read again in this issues J. Gerald Eller, Charlotte Marshall and Lynn Eller have been working the last few months to prepare a proposal regarding long-range strategic planning which they will unveil at Portland.

Again, thank you for allowing me to be helpful to the EFA as your president for the past four years. I trust that I have been able to make a difference for the better.'
  Sincerely,
Bill

AUDITOR'S STATEMENT

AS INTERNAL AUDITOR, I HAVE AUDITED THE STATEMENT OF RECEIPTS AND DISBURSEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED DECEMBER 31, 1992. THIS AUDIT INCLUDED AN EXAMINATION OF RECEIPTS AND DISBURSEMENTS RECORDS, DEPOSIT VOUCHERS, CANCELED CHECKS, BANK STATEMENTS, VENDOR INVOICES, VOUCHERS, AND OTHER SUPPORTING DATA. THIS EXAMINATION OF THE RECORDS INDICATES THAT FUNDS WERE PROPERLY ACCOUNTED FOR, THAT GOOD RECORDS WERE MADE, AND THAT INVOICES OR OTHER DETAILED INFORMATION ARE ON FILE WHICH ADEQUATELY SUBSTANTIATE THESE TRANSACTIONS. BASED ON THE RESULTS OF THIS AUDIT, I CONCLUDE THAT THE RECEIPTS AND DISBURSEMENTS STATEMENT OF THE ELLER FAMILY ASSOCIATION FOR THE YEAR ENDED DECEMBER 31, 1992 PRESENTS FAIRLY THE CASH TRANSACTIONS FOR THE YEAR AND THE CASH BALANCE AS OF THAT DATE.
