Eller Family Reunion held
at Sheriff's Possee building

Posse building in Cleburne was the site for the The Johnson County Sheriff's 65th annual Eller Family Reunion on Sunday, Nov. 20, 1994. Three of the four surviving children of James Granville and Janetta Margaret Eller and their spouses hosted this year's affair. Those hosts included Leo and Lena Eller of Burleson, Sam and Doris Eller of ,Hope, Ark., and Hazel James of Burleson. Maybell Fincher of Fort Worth was unable to attend due to health problems. A total of 129 attended this year.

Ten children were born to James Granville and Janetta Margaret Eller. When their oldest child was 29 and the youngest was 6 years old, they had the first reunion on Thanksgiving Day 1929. Then there were 23 in
the immediate family. For years, the reunion took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Eller (parents) until his health began to fail. Later it took place in the homes of some of the children until the family grew beyond those confines. In 1968, the family started meeting on the Sunday before Thanksgiving at the Sheriff's Posse building in Cleburne. At the time of her death in 1978, Janetta Eller had 208 living descendants. There are now 325+ descendants of Janetta Eller and James Granville Eller. This year the Eller descendants came from as far away as South Carolina, Arkansas, Florida, and Louisiana. The Eller family formed a band that played on the radio back in the 1930s so there was plenty of music at this reunion.
