Moses was the first and only child of Rebecca Hawkes Maverick who died in childbirth. The infant survived and inherited from both grandfathers, Adam Hawkes and Moses Maverick. On 26 February 1677 he was among those who took the oath of fiedelity, being on the list of those who were sworn by Captian Thomas Marshall of Lynn according to the General Court order. The men took the oath at a general meeting by the several squadrons of tithing men and constables.
