The AHLFS are most likely very closely related to the AHLF family. There are some records of Ahlfs being found in the Osten to Oderquardt area. In this case it seems to be mostly a spelling variation. Another group of Ahlfs are from Wiesede, Reepsholt, Hannover area or Reepsholt, Oestf., Germany ( This is located west of Bremerhaven) Others are reported to be from Sankt Stephanus Katholisch, Bockum B. Muenster, Westfalen, Preussen.  Of note, members of the a branch of the AHLFF family also come from Westfalen but others are located in the Osten/Oderquardt area. 

There is also some recent data suggesting that Ahlfs has been  changed at times to Alfs
