Obituary of Reed Thomas Newton

This is the obituary for my g-grandfather,Reed Thomas Newton.

Funeral services for Reed Thomas Newton, 67, local taxidermist and carpenter and resident of Lake Charles for more than half a century, will be held at the Hixson funeral home at 4 p.m. today with the Rev. A.D. Becton, pastor of West Lake's First Baptist church, officiating.

Burial will be in Lake Charles Memorial park cemetery.

Born in Nebraska he came to Lake Charles as a boy of 10 years of age. Relatives said he had been the only taxidermist in this section for 45 years.

Survivors include his wife; six sons, Lee, Asa, Ray, and Reed all of Lake Charles, Fred of Colombus, Ohio, and James of Fort Bragg, N.C.; five daughters, Mrs. P.G. Williams and Mrs. George Nunez, both of Sweet Lake, Mrs. Leon Jorstad of Texas City, Texas, Mrs. Robert Moss of West Lake, Mrs. M.J. Hamilton of Orange, Texas; one brother, Charles Newton of New York; 33 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
