GAMMELL, William - D16/4/1869 - On the 16th ultimo, William Gammell, Esq., aged 57 years. Mr Gammell was born in Ayrshire, and emigrated to the United States at an early age. He came to Texas whilst it was under the dominion of the Mexican Government, participated in the revolution, was in the memorable Sherman charge of the 29th April, 1836, and also in the battle of San Jacinto, and otherwise aided in the achievement of the independence of the "Lone Star State" "Houston Telegraph"

The awfully sudden death of this excellent and esteemed servant of the Lord, has filled the people of his charge, and all who knew him, with deep grief. He discharged the duties of the pulpit, with his usual ability, on the day he died, but felt indisposed on his way home from the sanctuary, and in less than thirty minutes from the time he reached his own house, breathed his last. "Blessed are those servants whom the Lord, when he cometh, shall find watching."

This lady was her husband's fellow - traveller for the three last years of his wanderings amongst the Indians of North America. During that time she kept her journal of their travels for 13,000 miles along the Indian frontiers, embracing between 3000 miles of north and south latitude. GRIFFIN/MILNAY, E. - D1/2/1844 - At Wigtown, on the 1st curt., aged 91 years, E. Milnay, relict of John Griffin, beadle there for upwards of half a century, and who used to boast that he was the oldest member of the Wigtown Presbytery. The deceased was the oldest person in Wigtown, and could tell many amusing anecdotes of the civic doings in the burgh in bygone days.
