John W. Bacon
This case coming on to be heard & determined and it appearing to the court that said bastard child is over three years old, and it further appearing that the Defendant John W. Bacon, the father of said child is willing to take and raise said child and see that it does not become a county charge. The Court was pleased to order that said child be delivered to the Defendant and that he enter into bond with good and sufficient security to indemnify the County against any charge by reason of said bastard child and that he pay all costs in this case. And the said John W. Bacon being at the bar of the Court entered into bond as follows "to wit".
We John W. Bacon, Joseph C. Bacon and W. A. Crawford are held and firmly bound unto the State of Tennessee in the sum of five hundred Dollars for the payment of which we bind ourselves our heirs and assigns. The conditions of the above obligation is such that the bound John W. bacon is to same harmless the County of Washington and State of Tennessee from Deborah Chandler a bastard child born of the body of Nancy Ann Chandler on the 29th day of July 1866 ever becoming a charge against the State or County aforesaid. If said child should ever become a County or State charge as aforesaid then this obligation to be in full force and virtue otherwise to be void.
