The William Wright and Frances (Campbell) site is dedicated to my close friend, Irene Wright. She has spent more time researching the Wright and Campbell families of anyone that I know. Throughout the years, we have worked closely together, sharing our research, thoughts and ideas.Would also like to recognize Kendall Sparkman, Barb Schan and John T. Wright.
Frances 'Fanny' Campbell was the d/o James CAMPBELL Sr. and Jane SAMPLE. The Campbell family remained in close contact with the Wright and other families and there were several intermarriages amongst the Wright, DOWNING, RAGSDALE and ROARK families. Several of the Campbell-Wright descendants migrated to the Cole Co., MO area.James Campbell Sr. came to the colonies before the revolution where he was a soldier. After the war, James was one of the first settlers of east Tennessee and one of the earliest pioneers on Fountain Run in Monroe Co.,KY.
Jane SAMPLE was d/o Moses Sample and Ruth WOOD. Moses left a will dated January 24, 1824 in Jefferson Co., KY - Will Book 2, p. 558; Probate Book 8, p. 170.

This day this cause came on for hering upon the Bill report of this Clerk & master pro confesso & proof & it appearing to the Court upon the repot of the C & M which is unexcepted that it would be unnecessary to sell the land for partition & (__?__) to the advantage of the heirs & it is further appearing to the Court from said report of the C & M that James Wright the admr of William Wright has paid thirty eight dollars and 64 cents over & above what came into his ahnds & such adm. which amount is due him with interest thereon. I do NOT believe the William Wright, born about 1800 North Carolina and died about 1851 Benton Co., Tennessee and married Elizabeth Ann 'Nancy' Stockdale, to be a son of this William Wright and Frances Campbell.Though he lived in Benton Co. TN also, the reasons that we do not belive this William who married Nancy STOCKDALE to be a child of William and Fanny (Campbell) Wright are:
- Names for the children of William Wright and Nancy STOCKDALE 'do NOT' fit in with the 'proven children' of William and Fanny (Campbell) Wright
- Court order lists all the heirs of William Wright and Frances Ann Campbell and no where is listed William Wright (who married Nancy Stockdale)
- None of the familly of William and Nancy (Stockdale) Wright purchase a single item at estate sale of 'our' William Wright
- None of William and Nancy (Stockdale) Wright's family ever witnessed a deed, bond, or mortage for the family of William and Fanny (Campbell) Wright) or vice versa
- William Wright (m. Nancy) lived in the northern portion of the County in the Lick Creek area while William Wright (m. Fanny) lived in the area of Big Sandy River (Ramble Creek?) and in Camden, Tn.
