05-16-1895, A.F. Dix preached a sermon in Montgomery (1st Baptist?) church |

1896 | Missing | The hardcopy at MPL & hard
copy or microfilm at State Archives are missing.
Since our records indicate that Dollie joined the First Baptist Church in 1896, it’s possible that some, if not all of those listed in the 1897 directory, were in Montgomery in 1896. Since AFD & NBD aren’t listed, I think we can assume that they were still in Pine Grove. |

Are AFD and NBD still at Pine Grove?
p.378 show that the YMCA is located at 16 & 18 Commerce St. John F. Gay Fire insurance and Real Estate, 43½ Commerce St. M. Sable & Sons, now Sabel Steel Service, founded in 1869, started as a leather and carriage distribution business. In 1937, the harness and carriage part of the business was discontinued, but the scrap metal recycling operation continued to grow. In 1953 the first steel service center was opened in Montgomery by Sabel Steel. King St., only 2 blocks long now, is smack dab in the middle of the state capitol complex – all office buildings and parking lots. |

Comments and questions:
My memory of my grandfather telling me that Ruth’s uncles lived in the apartment complex at 900 Felder Avenue and my mother’s note that they lived on Felder appears to be incorrect.
No mention of Philo or Paul being secretaries general
at the YMCA as noted in First Baptist Church, 150 Years and my mother’s
note.
[We have a letter from Philo written from Kentucky on
YMCA stationery .]
