Our available information on Hattie Lillis "Dimple" (Dix) Hall gives
two of her children as being born only 3 months apart:
[The year of William A. Hall's birth was1900 per
Mike Lyon, husband of Caroline Harriette Hall, daughter of Richard hall
Sr., Dimple's baby (11th child).] Thanks to Ed Sproles Jr. for providing
the information.
1880-1889 - ASD, President of William and Emona Austin College: This is either a typo or possibly some overlapping, depending on where the college was located. AFD moved from Winchester TN to Stevenson AL in July of 1880, then back to Union Springs AL in July, 1883. I can only assume that William and Emona Austin College was located in Stevenson, and that they stayed there only one year. Perhaps the 1880-1889 dates refer to the dates of William and Emona Austin College? So far, searches for "Emona" have turned up nothing. [ I found out that the name of the school was actually "William and Emma Austin College" and that it was in Stevenson. No mention of the Dixes there yet, but I'm back on the trail. When did AFD & family move to Montgomery? Our information says that Dollie joined 1st Baptist Church in 1896 [age ~ 25]; her parents in November 1897. It seems unlikely that Dollie would move to Montgomery a year before her parents, OR, that AFD & NBD wouldn't join the church immediately upon arriving in town. Since we don't have month and day with Dollie's affiliation, perhaps it's yet another case of inexact records and/or foggy memory. [ The Montgomery City Directoriey
for 1896 is missing, but in 1897,shows that not only was Dollie living
in Montgomery, but Lell, Paul and Philo as well. AFD doesn't appear
in the directory until 1898. We can only assume that the older kids
had moved to the big city a year or so before being followed by their parents.
