missing information in the search for the genealogy of Albert Sidney Dix, Isadora Nicoles Dix, Alexander Franklin Dix, Hellen Beach Dix, Francis Marion Nicoles, Jeniluska Holipeter Nicoles, Dix family Nicoles family
Missing Puzzle Pieces

What city and county in Indiana was Francis Marion Nicoles born?

Who has Nellie Beach Dix's diary? [Mary Vernon Sproles has Nellie's scrapbook.  Is there also a diary?]

Was is the date of Philo's marriage to Elizabeth Hayes?
What is the day and month in 1961, of Philo's death?
Where is he buried?

Where were Albert Sidney Dix and Isadora Nicoles married on June 18, 1888?  The met in Brewton Alabama and had their first child, Nelle, there.  There is no record of their marriage in Escambia County Alabama in 1888 Escambia County, "Records Online"/"Vitals"/"Marriage Records" for the years 1879-1892  .
Nellie Beach's Bible lists Decatur as thier place of marriage.  The  AFD and NBD family Bible  has the entry:

"Albert S. Dix was married to Isidore J. Nicoles at Decatur Ala. June 18 1888".

We know of no connections in Decatur at that time.

Who is the unknown man (second from left) in the "Four Dix Brothers" photo below?

Photo Submitted by Alice Newman Shannon

L. Daniel Dix, James Madison Hall (?), Philo Dix, Thomas Murrell Dix.
(Based on our best guesses and other photos with names.)

The logical assumption would be Paul Finch Dix, but this does not look like any of the other photos of him nor does it look like other images of Allie.  Could this be Dimple's husband, James Hall?

Do you know any of these guys?  Looks like W.W.II era.

u-0036.jpg 7x4 studio portrait of ?2 year old girl.  signed by “Stanley Paulger, 22”, Montgomery photographer.  [From other photos by this photographer, I have deduced that the two digit number following his name, that the numbers are the last two digits of the year the photo was made.  What girl would have been about 2 years old in 1922, Audrey Dismukes?] Yes, Audrey.

Notes on Stanley Paulger, Photographer

I was viewing your website because it came up under a google search for Stanley Paulger.  I am a genealogist in Michigan who is currently doing genealogy for a lady who just today sent me information on her grandfather Stanley Paulger.
Will Allie Dix was the page the picture was on.
I thought maybe you would like to know just a little bit about the photographer in case it helps.  Stanley Paulger left home at 14 or 15, somehow removed to Ohio and became a photographer's apprentice.  Then he removed to Montgomery and worked for Tressler's Studio where he met and Married Hazel Sondley.

Anyway the name of the studio was Tressler's.
Good luck,

Subject: Re: Picture of child dated 1922

My name is Paulette Wright.. My grandfather was Stanley Paulger.. I happened to re read a post by a genealogist that I had spoken to some years back. You might want to correct this post. Granddaddy did work for Tressler's Studio but opened HIS OWN studio abt 1913 thru 1958 when the studio was sold to a couple of his employee's. Anyway just wanted to let you know that the picture was taken in granddaddy's studio not Tressler's.

Dix Descendants Discrepancies Solved

Our available information on Hattie Lillis "Dimple" (Dix) Hall gives two of her children as being born only 3 months apart:
William A.Hall,  09/30/1901 ; and Dorothy 01/01/1902

[The year of William A. Hall's birth was1900 per Mike Lyon, husband of Caroline Harriette Hall, daughter of Richard hall Sr., Dimple's baby (11th child).]  Thanks to Ed Sproles Jr. for providing the information.

1880-1889 - ASD, President of William and Emona Austin College:
This is either a typo or possibly some overlapping, depending on where the college was located. AFD moved from Winchester TN to Stevenson AL in July of 1880, then back to Union Springs AL in July, 1883.  I can only assume that William and Emona Austin College was located in Stevenson, and that they stayed there only one year.  Perhaps the 1880-1889 dates refer to the dates of  William and Emona Austin College?   So far, searches for "Emona" have turned up nothing.

[ I found out that the name of the school was actually "William and Emma Austin College" and that it was in Stevenson.  No mention of the Dixes there yet, but I'm back on the trail. RDW]
