The project to extract the 1850 Jefferson County Census was started about 5
years ago by the Jefferson County Genealogical Society. The then President
collected the data and when he left office, passed them on to the next
President, who in turn passed them on to the person who did not return the
data to the Society.
Fifteen to twenty people worked on this project. I can name some of them but I
am not putting names here as I feel if I leave out just one person it would be
wrong.
I would like to take the time to thank each and every one who helped. THANK
YOU EACH AND EVERYONE. With the towns already on disk done by Gus Rogers, John
and Ellen Bartlett, Francis Jackson and me, the entries by Azilda Baker and
Shirley Farone, the extraction by Mary Lou McCreadie, we will have all
twenty-two towns.
The material was extracted in various ways and none was consistent. This all
has to be uniform so we are working on each town, one at a time. The material posted here has not been checked. This takes a long time and
we have decided to put what we have on the web page and update as we go. Always remember this is our interpretation of what was written in the
records. There are mistakes. It is the responsibility of the researcher to
verify.
If you have any comments, corrections, additions or would like to help checking these records please contact Alice Corbett.
Note 1. Corrections - I will check the census and if I agree with it, the correction will be made. If I don't agree I will get other opinions, If we don't agree the entry will remain and the correction will be put in the transcribers remarks. That way a search for either name will bring up that entry.
Note 2. David Simonds has volunteered to check the towns of Alexandria and Theresa. A big project and we are very grateful to David.
If anyone else would like to volunteer please contact Alice
Corbett.
