Roll of the Departed Deaths Occurring in Sparta and Vicinity During Past Week and Place of Internment.
SARAH J. MCGUIRE. Sarah J., wife of Mr. H. E. MCGUIRE, died at the family home two and one-half miles northwest of Sparta, at 11:10 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 7, aged 47 years, 1 month and 17 days. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mrs. THOMPSON, and was born on the farm six miles southeast of Sparta, and always lived in this community. She was a member of a family of six children, all of whom are deceased except two. Mr. W. J. THOMPSON, of Chicago, and Miss Ada THOMPSON, of this city. She was united in marriage with Mr. H. E. MCGUIRE in 1884. To this union two children were born, Harry T. and Mary L. both of whom survive and remain at home with their father. Deceased enlisted in the cause of Christianity and nearly all her life was active in church affairs, and during her last illness she expressed the utmost faith in the final home of the Christian beyond the grave.
The funeral services was held at the family residence at 1 o’clock p.m, Saturday, Jan. 9, and were conducted y the Rev. James MCILROY. Internment was at Caledonia cemetery.
In this connection the family desires to express their gratitude to the neighbors and friends for their many kindnesses during the illness and at the funeral of the beloved wife and mother. |

Died, at her home near this city, Sunday, January 10, 1897, Miss Maggie THOMPSON, daughter of Mr. Joseph THOMPSON, aged about 33 years. Consumption was the dread disease that carried her away, her death being the fourth that has occurred in the family within the past eleven months, three girls and one son, all victims of the same disease. A few months ago she was sent down to Texas in the hope that the climate would prove beneficial, but little or no benefit was derived from her residence there. She was a young Christian lady whose many good qualities endeared her to a large circle of friends, and her death is deeply mourned. Her funeral was held from the family residence Tuesday forenoon, the services being conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. A. HENDERSON. Internment in Caledonia cemetery. The family have the heartfelt sympathy of our people in the _______ and sad bereavement that had visited their home. |

DIED At her home, Monday, May 25th, 1896, Miss Agnes M. THOMPSON, after many months of patient suffering from consumption. Agnes was born and grew up under Christian influence and was faithful to her church and held it high in her affection. During her long affliction she enjoyed in her soul the deep and abounding peace of God. Her many friends were drawn to her by her living character and Christ likeness. She was a resigned Christian, a bright and beloved member of her family, but her soul has gone home to its reward.
Funeral services at the family home were held on Tuesday Afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. John A. HENDERSON, a large concourse of sympathizing friends attending. Interment in Caledonia cemetery. |
