Notes for Riley Isaac WELKER
Occupation: Listed as single man working as a farmer in household of Solomon and Amanda O'Dell in Caldwell Co in 1870. This was his step-brother, his father had just died and his sister and mother were living alone. $1000 personal estate.

His wife died in 1896. By 1900, he is living with Basil Culver, his "partner" b. 1881. His three youngest children are living with Walter and Ida Mae (Burnham) McAfee. Ida Mae is his daughter-in-law's sister; Walter may be related to Riley's wife Sarah. His oldest two sons can be found with their own households in 1900, nearby in Missouri. His third son Samuel indicated on the 1910 census that he was married in 1899, and he had a son born in 1901 in Kansas, but he has not been found. Florence is living with his full sister Martha and her husband William Davis in Caldwell Co. Her two older sisters may also be in the listing, but it has been damaged.

Obituary: Isaac Riley Welker, son of Andrew and Elizabeth (Adams) Welker, was born in Caldwell County, Missouri, December 13, 1853, and died October 19, 1921 at the home of his daughter Mrs. Jess Wheeler, in Cowgill Missouri where he had made his home for the past eight years. His age at the time of his death was 67 years, 10 months, and 6 days. <not sure if portions missing> To this union were born nine children, two of whom preceded him in death. The surviving children are: Gilbert, of Kansas City; Andrew of South Missouri; Samul of Sheldon, Missouri; Mrs. Lotta Wheeler, of Cowgill, Mrs. Florence Wheeler, of New Ulysses, Kansas; Ray of Nebraska; and Mrs. Ethel Carter, of McFall, Missouri. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Davis, of Delta, Colorado, and Mrs. S.E. Smith, of Braymer, and one brother, Andy Odell, of Black Oack. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afernoon at 2 o’clock at the Black Oak M.E. Church, conducted by Rev. W.H. Layton. Burial was made in the cemetery at that place. [789]
