Notes for William Posey Gunnels
From the HISTORY & GENEALOGY OF FAMILIES IN PICKETT COUNTY, compiled by Pickett County Book Committee 1991, page 578, it reads, "The first Gunnels to come into this area of Tennessee was Joseph Daniel and his brother, William Posey Gunnels. They rode in on horseback from Georgia.
Both had served in the Georgia Military during the Revolutionary War. Their father, William Nathan, was a Lieutenant, and their uncle, Daniel Gunnels, was a captain in the same militia.” There is evidently a marker for William and Parnina in the Lovelady (Sims) Cemetery, but they are believed to be actuall buried on their old homestead, which is now under water.
