Notes for John COGGESHALL III
“Holman’s Halstead”, an otherwise reliable account, notes that John was “a merchant in London.” Only mention of John Coggeshall in London at the time is “John Cokesall”, son of Willaim Cokesall of Waltham, Essex, clothier, apprenticed to James Quyke 8 years by 1543. By 1553, John had struck out on his own and purchased the estate of “Munchensies” 26 Apr 1553.[ [699]] It was the family home for several generations, later called Callops, is now called Blue Bridge House and is located south of hte Colne river on the road from Halstead to Coggeshall.[ [694]]

John appears in the records in 1570 purchasing lands in Halstead with Robert Swattock and in 1573 when he is named one of the trustees of the will of William Martin. In 1680, he signed a petition as a clothier supporting the removal of Dutch clothiers from the town.[ [694]]

He is listed with a first wife Elizabeth in some sources.
Notes for Katherine WANGFORD
Husband’s will refers to “bro-in-law” John Wangford. [699]
