Notes for William Smith
William and Susanna migrated from Washington Co, Kentucky to Nelson County, where they had the last of their children. Their son Thomas, for unknown reasons, was baptized in a church in St. Mary’s County, where Susanna grew up. Their children were married mostly in Daviess Co, Indiana, starting in 1832.

In 1838, William and Susannah signed over their property to John Smith in return for care the rest of their lives. The deed is on record in Washington, Daviess Co, Indiana.
Census notes for William Smith
1790 St. Mary’s: Only William (Will W), 2 males 16+, 3 females (Genweb archives)
1840 Daviess: No William or other males that fit family.
Notes for Susanna French
Baptized Catholic. Her godparents where Samuel Smith and Sarah French.

Death roster for 1850 census lists Susanna Smith, age 84, born in Maryland, died in September of old age.

First married John Russell? One Susanna listed as wife of John Russell, daughter of William and Rebecca French. Immigrated about 1788 from St. Mary’s Co to Nelson Co, KY. William French is listed as the son of Martin and Mary French and also moved to Nelson Co about 1788. Randolph and Jeremiah (brothers) also listed as moving to Nelson Co at the same time. All this from St. Mary’s Migrations (http://softlib.rice.edu/CRPC/GT/dawsonm/genealogy/F1.htm), referencing William Elder, Ancestors and Descendants (Mary Louise Donnelly.,P.O. Box 97, Ennis, Texas, 75120, c 1986) Source also lists Ignatius French (1705-1771) as William’s brother, and the family names strongly tie him to Susanna and William. The wills of Ignatius and several of his sons are found here: http://www6.ewebcity.com/lronan/frenchwills.htm#IgnatiusFrenchSR. There is no James French who had a daughter Susanna.
