Inherited the Cheesman sawmill and wharf from his father in 1743. He married three times. David Cheesman alternatively says that he married Ann Ellis in 1731 and 1746, but neither shows up in the NJ statewide marriage index. At any rate, assuming Mary Ann was born in 1757, Ann was her mother.
[666], [2]His will provides for wife Christian (100 pounds and her goods), son Richard (Peter’s homestead, 2000 acres bought of Samuel Miflin, 1/2 of saw mill); son Thomas (plantation in Waterford on which he lives that Peter bought of brother William, 400 acres in Turnerville, 1/2 of sawmill); daughter Mary Ann Jackson (5 shillings, 400 acres given already), daughter Deborah Pierce, wife of Henry (60 pounds); daughter Margaret Pierce, wife of William (10 pounds); grandson Jacob Williams, son of John (150 acres in Deptford, to be surveyed from land bought of Richard Penn near Jolly’s Branch); also to Richard and THomas, land caled Indian Branch. Executors sons Richard and Thomas. Will was proven 25 Aug 1788.
