Came to US at age of 17 in 1657 and settled on Lange Eylandt in the village of Amersfoort (Flatlands). The first record of him is found June 14, 1663, when a list of "equipment and munitions of war" possessed by the Dutch settlers at Ameersfoort (Brooklyn) shows that Dirck Stoffelsen was responsible for one pound of powder valued at one florin.
Dirck took oath of allegiance in Kings Co, NY in Sept. 1887 and is listed “off fflackland” as living there 30 years. (Doc History of NY, I, 431) Son Stoffel also took the oath, and is noted as born there.
In an Ante-nuptial aggreement in Gravesent Town Recs Bk 3 p. 114: living in Ameersfoort, Kings Co in Long Island. Widower of Catherine van Lewen deceased, now maried to Johanna Havens widdow of Johannis Halsard. She’s his sole heir except for eldest son Stoffel. He’s her sole heir. Kids get it when they die. Dated 18 Feb 1690/1.
Wife Catharine was with him to witness a baptism 11/16/1684. Dirck and Johanna witnessed baptism of grandsons Jan and Dirck 25 Apr 1696, Reformed Dutch Church, Brooklyn. In 1698, listed in a census of Flatlands, L.I., N.Y. as DIRCK LANGSTRAAT. Other kids by Catherine Adrian, Classje. By Johanna, Dirick and Maryntje. Known issue only of Adrian and Stoffel.
