Earliest mention in Scituate seems to be the appearance of "Goodman Foxwell's house" on Rev. John Lothrop's list as the second built since he arrived in late Sept. 1634.[
[501]] Admitted to the Scituate church 8 Jan 1634/5.[
[180]] His wife joined 14 Jun 1635, having "her dismission from elsewhere." He appears on the Scituate 1639 list of those who had taken the oath of fidelity and the Barnstable 1643 list of those able to bear arms. His children from 1635 on are recorded at Barnstable.
Will mentions "son" Samuel Bacon, Hugh Cole, son and daughter Nelson. Samuel and Huge were exectors. They refused but were ordered by the court. His total inventory was £26, 18s, of which £12 was real estate. There was a codicil dated 19 May 1668 and the inventory was taken 30 May 1668. (Abstract printed NEHGR 7:177-8)
His will and the few small land grants are the only mentions of this Richard. He was not a freeman, held no offices, and never went to court. This is not the Richard Foxwell who was in Boston in 1630 and settled at Pasquetua.[
[501]]
Listed among the original settlers of Barnstable in 1640 on an “original manuscript” at NEHGS, copied in NEHGR 2:64-67, with his daughters listed with their birthdates.
Rev. John Eliot records that "Ann Shelly a maid servant she came to the land in the year 1632 and was married to Foxall, a godly brother of the church of Scituate." She was admitted to the Boston church as John Coggeshall's servant on 20 Apr 1634.
