Notes for James MARTIN
Possible connection to Col. Alexander Martin, commander at the Battle of Brandywine (where David fought) and governor of NC? (Alex was connected to Robert Morrow/Eliz Shaw family)

“Came from Ireland during the Rev. War, served on the staff of General Washington, died when 110 years old and is buried in Franklin Co, VA; graduate of Belfast College, Ireland; four wives, 24 chilldren—Joh, Hughey, Billy, Robert, et al.”[ [758]] [Have to take this with a grain of salt...aside from the 110 age, he signed his will with an X, unlikely for a staff member of Washington.]

Will names John Martin, James Martin, Robert Martin, and Hugh Martin, his sons, and Eleander Watson and Jane Peck, his daughters. The following children were left the sum of one dollar and "nomore". Agnes Stanley, Peggy Holliday, Ann Ramsey and the heirs of William Martin.

Sometimes listed as passenger on 1761 “James and Mary” from Larne. That passenger list (from 1767): James Martin 38, Jane 39, William 13, John 12, Jane 10, Andrew 8, James 6. Allowing for death of Andrew early in life, it fits what else is known about family.
