Notes for James Burlingame
There is NO PROOF that James is the father of Joseph. The placement is based on the following:
- Joseph listed his birthplace as Moriah, Essex Co, NY and James is the only Burlingame living in that place with an unidentified son of the rig ht (any) age in his household;
- Joseph does not appear by himself in the 1840 census and there is still a male of the right age in Joseph's household in Illinois;
- and Joseph appears in 1850 in Grant County, WI, with no other relatives nearby. Grant County is just across the Illinois border from the Carroll/Whiteside area where James settled.
- Joseph listed his birthplace as Moriah, Essex Co, NY and James is the only Burlingame living in that place with an unidentified son of the rig ht (any) age in his household;
- Joseph does not appear by himself in the 1840 census and there is still a male of the right age in Joseph's household in Illinois;
- and Joseph appears in 1850 in Grant County, WI, with no other relatives nearby. Grant County is just across the Illinois border from the Carroll/Whiteside area where James settled.
