An undated newspaper profile indicates that he moved to La Crosse in 1888 with his family to work for the C.B. & N. railroad. He worked for them as a machinist until 1922, and later worked for F.L. Easton in “experimental work.” At age 82, he was still regularly hunting and fishing, and living alone in a 3 room apartment at 2113 Loomis (where he was living in 1935-1940 as well).
