Lost an arm at Gettysburg where he was nursed by a volunteer nurse. As soon as he was able he returned to his old home in Akron, Ohio. He went to Chicago and being taken ill was compelled to go to the city hospital. The nurse in the ward turned out to be the same on the battlefield. 162
