                  THE FAMILY OF HENRY LANTZ

         G357            Henry Lantz             G35

     Henry Lantz, son of Samuel and Magdalina Lantz, was
born Sept. 7, 1817. He was struck in the breast bone by a
piece of grindstone when he was four years old and was
always in poor health as a result. He grew up on the farm,
started to Marshall College, but his health failed and he
went West. He taught school in Ohio and Indiana, marrying
Caroline Bussard, of Germantown, Ohio. He was a mer-
chant, lost several stocks in floods, and became deep in debt.
In 1852, he started to California, via New York and Panama.
After seven months and twenty days of hardships, he ar-
rived in California. Finally, he returned and settled up with
his creditors. He died Nov. 7, 1865. Mr. B. F. Deppen, of
Trevorton, Pa., owns a booklet "To the Memory of Henry
Lantz" which is very interesting and from which the above
facts have been gleaned. His descendents are:

   1. Mary Magdalena, born Aug. 9, 1842, died Aug. 30,
      1847;
