LANTZ GENEALOGY THE FAMILY OF SAMUEL M. LANTZ H514 Samuel M. Lantz H51 Samuel M. Lantz, son of George and Christina (Maphis) Lantz was born Sept. 7, 1820. Jan. 27, 1848, he married Rebecca Rinker, daughter of Absolam Rinker. She was born Oct. 2, 1826 and died July 26, 1910. They went to housekeeping in the great house at Union Forge and he operated the Forge and the large farms connected with it for some years. He went into the Confederate Army and served throughout the war in Co. K, 12th Virginia Cavalry. He was wounded by a sabre cut in the head. He was a pris- oner at Camp Chase, Ohio, for nine months. When the was was over he found the Forge and all the buildings burned. After the war, he became one of the leading farmers of the county, using many improved meth- ods. He educated his children in the best schools of that day. He died June 14, 1885 and is buried in Cedar Wood Cemetery, Edinburg, Va. His children were: 1. John Robert; 2. Emma Susan; 3. Charles Albert; 4. Ann Elizabeth; 5. Mary Belle; 6. Ellen Rebecca; 7. Effie Martha. H5141 John Robert Lantz H514 John Robert Lantz, son of Samuel M. and Rebecca (Rinker) Lantz was born Feb. 6, 1849 at Union Forge. Nov. 4, 1875, he married Ella Caroline Hammond, who is still living. He spent some time in Montana and Texas. He taught in the public schools for several years. In 1902, he moved his family to Washington, D. C., where he was em- ployed in the Government Printing Office until he was re- tired on a pension in 1924. He died in 1927 and is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Washington, D. C. His children: 1. Susie Hammond; 2. Lizzie Florence; 3. Robert Raymond; 4. Harold Holms; 5. Grace Noel; 6. Samuel Aaron. 226
