Origin and Meaning of the name Heaton
The name Heaton or Heton is a placename. The suffix ton being the Old English word for a settlement and is where our modern word town comes from. The first part of the name probably is a corruption of the word high, so the full meaning would be a settlement in a high place.
Read about the Origin and History of the Heaton Family on Craig Smith's Heaton Page.Margaret Heaton was the first wife of my great, great, great grandfather, William Hart of Wrightington, Lancashire. She died young and William married again.
My basic aims would be to find out who Margaret's parents were and if sh had any brothers and sisters. Also there is the possibility that she had other children during the years she was married to my great great great grandfather.
Margaret Heaton (1805-1834)
Margaret Heaton married William Hart on 21st July 1823 at Eccleston by Chorley. William was 19 years old at the time of the marriage. Margaret must have been about 18.
William signed the marriage register, Margaret marked an X. The witnesses were: Thomas Martland and James Marsden.
Margaret and William had at least one child called Ruth, who, according to Wrightington Hall Catholic Death Register, died aged 4 and 2 months on 23rd July 1834. Margaret herself is listed as having died shortly after on 6th December 1834.
From the burials at St. Wilfred's Church, Standish, we find:
Ruth Hart of Wrightington, aged 4 yrs. (Catholic) July 25th. 1834.
Margaret Hart of Wrightington, aged 29 yrs.(Catholic) December 9th 1834
William married again on 5th May 1836, also in Eccleston, to Nancy Fisher. They named their only daughter Ruth after the the child Margaret and William had lost.
