bullet  General Notes:

Charles Howe was originally known as Arthur Fredrick Townsend. This is from information written in St Marie, Sheffield Parish Register for his marriage to Margaret Walsh and also a note written against Margaret's entry in the Baptismal Register of St. Marie. It appears he was born at 338 South Road, Sheffield, the son of Mary Maria Townsend (born Kew Cross, Surrey). In the 1881 census they are listed as Boarders at 3 Leicester Street, Sheffield and Mary was recorded as an unmarried Tailoress. Arthur was adopted by William Horrax Howe (born 1867, Sheffield, occupation Tailor) and Agnes Mary Howe (nee Horrax, born 1865, Sheffield) and he was given his new name (as recorded in the 1891 census). At the time of the 1891 census they were living at 85 Sharrow Street, Sheffield, and William and Agnes had another son, Francis Lawrence Howe (born 1890, Sheffield). In 1901 the family were living at 91 Pinstone Street, Sheffield. At the time of his marriage in 1910, Charles was living at the Nook, Barber Road, Sheffield and was a musical instrument dealers clerk. By 1939 the Charles and his family were living at 28 Brandreth Road, Sheffield and Charles is recorded as a Commercial Clerk and also Main Controller of ARP First Aid Section. He died in Sheffield aged 62 and is buried at St Michael's Cemetery, Rivelin.
In the same grave at St Michael's Cemetery are Mary Walsh (nee Henaghen), Thomas Walsh, Leo Patrick Howe, Anthony Howe, Charles Bernard Howe and Margaret Howe (nee Walsh)
