1881: Stubbin, Hoyland Nether [RG11/4607/141/13]
1891: 76 Broad Street, Parkgate, Rawmarsh, Yorkshire [RG12/3852/10/13] (His father James was not with them). John's occupation was given as an Engineer Blacksmith.
By the 1901 census John James had married Mary Ann Broadhead and they were living at 33 Ekin Street, Rotherham, Yorkshire. John's occupation was recorded as a Blacksmith.
In 1911 the family are at St Lawrence Road, Tinsley, Sheffield and John is recorded as a Colliery Balcksmith. With them is John's cousin Moses Mann a Licensed Victualler from West Bromich, Staffs
At the time of the wedding of his son William in 1929 he appears to have been promoted to manager and in the 1939 Register he is described as a Manager of Tub & Blacksmith Shop. At this time he is living at 88 Broom Lane, Rotherham with his daughter Harriet and son Thomas Gerald, whose house it seems to be. When he died in 1944 his daughter Harriet is mentioned in the Will.
