At the time of the 1881 census Joseph was living with his parents at Court 4, High Street, Attercliffe cum Darnall, Sheffield [RG11/4667/120/35].
In 1891 Joseph was living with his parents at 36 Charles Street, Kimberworth, Rotherham. Joseph's occupation was recorded as a Coal Miner's apprentice [RG12/3849/49/18].
By the time of 1901census Joseph had married Margaret and were living at 18 Park Street, Rotherham. Joseph's occupation was recorded as a Hanger-on in Coal Mine! [RG13/4395/162/19]. At the time of the 1939 Register Joseph was living at 19 Fersham Park Avenue, Rotherham with his daughters Margaret and Mary Winifred and Margret's husband William Illingworth. Joseph is described as a Coal Hewer Disabled.
Joseph died at 23a Upper Albert Road, Sheffield (Coal Hewer - Retired).
