At the time of the 1939 Register Fred was living with his wife Agnes and son Michael at 106a High Street, Maltby. With them was their neice Margaret Illingworth. Fred is described in the Register as a Pharmacist Manager. Fred was a keen photographer and artist and bred and judged Labradors.

Fred married Agnes KING, daughter of Joseph KING and Margaret Ellen HOGAN, on 18 Aug 1934 in St. Bede, Rotherham, Yorkshire, England. (Agnes KING was born on 22 Mar 1909 in Rotherham, Yorkshire, England and died in 2004 in Whitby, Yorkshire, England.)
