Robert Porteous McLEAN
Robert sailed on the SS Metagama to Canada on the 9th December 1923 with the intention to settle there and his first destination was to stay with his cousin Thomas McLean in Toronto. He left his wife Isabella in Edinburgh, and she would appear to have gone to Canada with sons James and Alex in 1930 to join him (he paid their fares on the SS Duchess of Bedford which sailed from Greenock on the 20th Septmeber). However, it appears Isabella, James and Alex returned to Scotland in the same year boarding the SS Alaunia and arriving back in the UK in December. Robert married Isabella THOMSON, daughter of Alexander Howie THOMSON and Isabella CUNNINGHAM, on 1 Nov 1912 in Canongate, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. (Isabella THOMSON was born about 1885 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland and died on 26 Oct 1943 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.) |
