  General Notes:

Elizabeth Weir, also known as Elizabeth Hutton (some census records) and Elizabeth Kirkwood (her son William McGinty's wedding certificate) lived with John & Margaret Hutton. In the 1851 census she is described as a stepdaughter of John and it therefore seems that Elizabeth was the daughter of Margaret Kirkwood, presumably from a previous relationship with a Weir. In later censuses she appears as Elizabeth Hutton and she is regarded as a daughter/sister of the Hutton family. She had a relationship and children with William McGinty but does not appear to have officially married. Their son William was born about 1848. They also had a daughter, Margaret, born about 1861 (her death registry entry in 1868 states she was 7 when she died). This is a bit puzzling because between these two children William appears to have joined the army, seeing action and being injured in the Crimean War, returned and had a relationshipship with another woman having a son, John, born about 1858.

Elizabeth married William McKINTY, son of William McKINTY and Margaret HANNAY. (William McKINTY was born about 1826 in Ireland and died on 6 Jul 1899 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.)
