Margaret WALLER

  General Notes:

Margaret was born in Heeley, Sheffield on the 28th December 1921. As a youngster she took up swimming along with her older brother Ken and her sister Mamie. She won many medals and cups in local competitions, once swimming for the City. She continued to enjoy swimming into her 80's.

Margaret's first job was as a hair dresser. She then worked in a wholesale drapery warehouse, whilst during the war, she did "war work" at the university Engineering Dept. At eighteen she had joined a Rambling club with her sister and friends and this was where she met Ernest, her future husband.
She went on to work at Arthur Balfour & Sons, where Ernest and his father were employed, in "reserved trades". Her future father-in-law was her supervisor.

She married Ernest in December 1944 and they started their married life in Heeley, where her son was born in 1950. Her mother came to live with them after she was widowed. They all moved to a more modern house in Stradbroke where her daughter was born in 1952.
Margaret's mother moved to London to live with her other daughter Mamie.

Margaret went back to work in the 1960's in the accounts office of Westons Wholesale Chemists. From there she moved to a city centre stationery shop. She later worked for Stone's Steels in their accounts office and retired from there as Office manager, in 1981 just as her first grand daughter -Jen was born. Margaret, Ernest and Keith moved to Church House, 737 Ecclesall Road in 1977 and Margaret helped out at a local charity shop.

Margaret moved to Periwood Avenue in 1995 with Ernest and their son. It was there , Margaret and Ernest, were able to celebrate their Diamond Wedding anniversary and receive their card from the Queen. In all they enjoyed 66 years of married life.

Margaret married John Ernest WRAGG on 23 Dec 1944 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. (John Ernest WRAGG was born on 31 Mar 1922 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England and died on 2 Oct 2010 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.)
