Thomas Kevin WALSH
Thomas known as Kevin was born at 72 Ruthin St. He was named Kevin after Kevin Barry, a young Irish Volunteer (part of the old IRA in the Irish War of Independence 1919-21) executed by the English five months before Thomas Kevin's birth. This was very much in line with his father's Republican leanings. Kevin went to De La Salle Grammar School, Scott Road, Shefield. Before the Second World War he worked as a Clerk/Statistician in Sheffield Corporation's Public Assistance Office. During WWII he did military service as an observer / navigator in the RAF spending time in Canada, India and Burma. In Burma he was one of the two-man crew of the timber framed de Haviland Mosquito Mk VI fighter-bomber planes which carried out raids against Japanese targets.
