Oscar York Swingley was born in 1855 in Ogle County, Illinois. He was the oldest son of William Swingley and Mary Wagner.
This photo was taken in 1881, the same year he was married to Alice Lewis. They had four children; George, Lee, Mary, and Florence (who died as an infant).
In 1903, five days before his 48th birthday, Oscar was despondent about ill health, and committed suicide near the family farm in Ogle County.
